About me

 Hi I'm Matt,

I've done this blog because friends and family ask me for recipes and i thought this would be a great way of sharing them!

I love cooking and especially for others. I make no claims that I am any good, but people seem to enjoy my food and thats what really matters! I feel passionately about cooking from scratch with fresh quality produce. I try and avoid supermarkets and try and source everything from butchers and local grocers. My recipes are from watching tons of cooking programmes, reading recipes and through trial and error. I have taken ideas from one person and mixed with another...in other words a hybrid of many ideas.

Well, my besie' mate Holly got me into this blogging malarkey (I want to thank her for helping me do this site, without her i would never have done it).

           Rach and Holly

She is one of my followers so have a look on her site http://booksartandstartrek.blogspot.co.uk/ its amazing! Also I would like to say a huge thank you to Rach for being my ace photograher and Blog editor (dslexia isnt the best thing to have when writing a food blog!!). Thanks again you two!

Holly told me that i need to also write a bit about myself...apparently that's the thing to do! ..so here goes.

Well along with cooking my other passion is my wife Rach (few brownie points there for saying that!!). We both love our food, whether its me doing all the cooking (yes I hear you cry she has landed on her feet with me!), or going out to restaurants. The restaurants we go to tend to be really nice ones where the food is amazing. A huge annoyance is going out for a meal and you know you could have done better yourself! I love Northcote Manor in Clitheroe, Blackburn, run by Nigel Haworth...absolutely fantastic!

With my passion for food comes my sweet-tooth addiction, and with that comes my LOVE of chocolate. I think it says in the bible " on the 7th day God had a little rest (more a cat nap) then set out making his proudest achievement to date...Chocolate. Once done, God tasted it and said "Hell yeah!" ( I may have paraphrased a little!). I have put chocolate brownies on the blog, but at the moment the recipe is secret. Out of all the recipes I do that is the one that gets most "ohh my goodness" reaction. I will put other chocolate recipes on here as I go.

The sweet-tooth comes at a cost, the cost being the GYM! I have to balance the input of food (especially the sweets) with exercise. I haven't always done this, I was nearly 16 stone for around 15 years of my life. Only through a realisation that I had bigger boobs than the cast of "Baywatch" and I looked like an upside down "Weeble" (target audience of this blog has risen to the over 35's!!). So, I exercise and watch what I eat but still make sure if cooking healthily, the food is still well presented.

For me cooking and eating is a pleasure. I enjoy the preperation work, the pottering in the kitchen (target audience of blog has now just risen to the over 50's as I just used the word "pottering"!) but for me when we eat, we eat with our eyes first. The ability to make sure it looks good on the plate is so important, whether its beans on toast or lamb shanks. My goal when cooking is to make the person eating it feel special, that effort and care has gone into it.

My goal of this blog is not to set the cuniliry world alight, but to give people easy to follow recipes that have been tried and tested... and work. I will add tricky recipes, but most are simple with bags of flavour.

Please leave feedback, whether its how you got on with a cooking a recipe, or what worked for you and what didn't, but also any requests or questions you have. I would love to hear from you. And if you enjoy my blog please follow and tell your friends.

Thanks, I hope you enjoy this blog.

Matty
